lakker were commissioned by the re:vive initiative to create a new conceptual work solely sampling field recording, tv and radio broadcasts from the dutch national av archive, the netherlands institute for sound and vision. the curated material provided all related to and was representative of the theme the “dutch and water”.
the resulting 8 track release “struggle and emerge” is a tense soundtrack to the machine driven mid-20th century that captures the complex relationship between the dutch and the water that surrounds them- unyielding, colossal, industrial.

koehler returns to berceuse heroique with his third release for the label. contra blood invokes the spirit of early no u turn records, infusing some techno dynamics, creating a very interesting anthem for people who don’t care about boundaries in dance music. flammarion breach combines his classic ‘ardcore techno sound with a repetitive arpeggio that recalls the tension of some of the best film scores by john carpenter. with rotating rupees, koehler delivers another beautiful ambient tune and this time its his ode to zelda.

morah’s first release came from helena hauff’s return to disorder label and this time the athenian producer takes the same techno and electro sound and goes completely berserk for berceuse heroique. morah creates some huge waves of feedback on anarchy, which sounds like a techno version of metal machine music, then he takes the old school viewlexx sound and makes it even more confrontational, on you said no and impasse. looking back is a beautiful, melancholic - but still very dysfunctional - version of the death of a rave. one of the strongest points of this new producer is that his music sounds like the city of athens right now: raw energy mixed with manic depression and pessimism.

on his first release for berceuse heroique, rotterdam’s finest dj overdose meets one of the strongest producers of detroit, mr. ob ignitt. overdose creates the best soundtrack for a “march of the robots” scene with dead city. the mighty bounce of early dr. dre productions meets some nasty electro carnage. on sorry to disappoint you can hear the classic west coast electro sound of some of his older releases mixed with some funky sci-fi synth lines. then, ob ignitt takes this monster of a tune and creates one of the gnarliest house tunes of this year with a proper g funk bassline that will properly test your sound system on a good night.

terrific record! eight charged, intimate meditations by julie normal and olivier demeaux, playing a rickety ondes martenot and an old church harmonium. gripping, detailed, stately improvisation — a bit like the ùrlars in classical bagpipe music — which nervily mixes the sternly doom-laden with precarious, other-worldly wonderment. scienceofuse is a new electronic music label from ljubljana, slovenia. its purpose is to transmit futuristic frequencies by using the science of creation to transcend percieved limitations. connecting the advances in our culture and technology with the important lessons of visionaries that came before us. the label s first release, -responsible design- by veteran dj and expert knob-twiddler known as electronic badminton king (e.b.king for short) is an acid-tinged affair with a darkish early noughties electro vibe on the a-side, while the flip delivers an abrasive technoid banger coupled with a deeper floating acid cut.

anyone familiar with the music of sinisa tamamovic knows the man is an expert in techno floor fillers.... the tracks here are no exception, valentina and confused reside in the world of bold, unrelenting grooves constructed with little more than bass and drums: and they get the job done. the bass lines are distinctly sinisa, simple, catchy, and mixed exquisitely, they take on a whole new attitude when played on club systems. valentina starts things strong, its driving rhythm gains energy as atmospheres develop and an worldly vocal enters, a latin american street rhyme that gives the track some international flare. confused is more raw, employing rough drums and ethereal sound effects. either one will do the trick for peak hours and late nights, and expect to hear these all over the place at wmc 2016

in 2006, tim arndt released the first near the parenthesis album “go out and see”. arndt had intended to follow up that release with a more beatless ambient album, where percussion was left to the side and composition took center stage. a shelved idea that we now get the benefit of a full ten years later. this new album helical is the realization of arndt s stripped down ambient concept. helical features arndt’s characteristic experimental modem classical instrumentation and compositional style, but slows things down and stretches them out. the focus on the organic is clear, but moments of ethereal breath weave in and out and prevent the album from becoming too self aware. helical, as a loose reference to the geometric structure of our very dna and it contains themes that are driven by a recent discovery of arndt’s past and ancestry. the release seamlessly stitches all of these concepts together and marks an unique release and new direction for arndt’s near the parenthesis.
